A Psychoanalytic Reading of Christina Rossetti’s “The Lost Titian”
[ send me this essay ]
This 5 page report discusses the psychoanalytical aspects of the short story by Christina Rossetti (1830-1894) “The Lost Titian” that was published in 1856. It is worth noting that her works’ apparent simplicity often masks a darker and far more intellectual stream of consciousness. From a psychoanalytical perspective it is quite clear that there is much more to the writer and her work which may, in itself, serve as a metaphor for a creative and unique woman of the Victorian age. A View of Medieval Life (7 pp)
[ send me this essay ]
Labels in any time period tend to fluctuate -we may call the Middle Ages that period of time from the twelfth century to the fifteenth century. An art historian would label these early, high and late Gothic, but for the sake of discussion we will use "Medieval," to encompass both. A large part of the population at this time was illiterate, but that does not mean that they did not love stories like the rest of us. What has survived from that period are the stories, in the forms of the works of Christine de Pisan (1363 - 1431) and Jean Foissart ( c 1330 - c1404). Yet we will see different pictures of the same society from their point of view as we examine their works. Bibliography lists 3 sources.

4 pages in length. Children are often the unwitting victims of domestic violence, even though they are not the specific targets of the adult's anger. Statistics show that in America, a child is reported abused or neglected every thirteen seconds, which equates to more than two point seven million children each and every year. This figure, more than three times as many as was reported in 1980, reflects a disturbing trend toward uncontrolled acts of domestic violence. The writer discusses how dental healthcare professionals can first recognize child abuse in their patients and then deal with the moral and ethical obligations of reporting such abuse. Bibliography lists 6 sources.

[ send me this essay ]
5 pages in length. Carrying forth the burden that has plagued women for centuries, Adrienne Rich's When We Dead Awaken: Writing As Re-Vision attempts to alter the historical concept of patriarchy within the boundaries of contemporary society. In the author's opinion, the age-old gender molds are ripe for revamping and bringing into the present frame of consciousness. No longer are women to be made to suffer through an oppressive existence simply because it is the right thing to do; rather, Rich paints a new picture of a strong, intelligent woman who will not be coerced by the irrational expectations of an oppressive, patriarchal society.
